Procurement and Distribution of Kenyan rice

Presidential Directive issued on 14 th January, 2020 designated KNTC as an anchor institution for procurement and distribution of locally produced rice to Government institutions and directed the National Treasury to release Kshs. 660 Million to fund the project.

The launch and flagging off at Kirinyaga County on 1st February, 2020 culminated the Government Rice Buying Initiative.

H.E. the President made various commitments which are expected to result in a paradigm shift in local rice landscape through enhanced production and war against adulteration of rice as well as delivery of safe products for citizens.

The Kenya National Trading Corporation Ltd has the requisite capacity to procure and deliver specific rice requirements to Disciplined Forces, Prisons Service, Boarding Schools among others using its Regional Branches, Logistics Unit and Sales Officers attached to the Counties in the implementation of the Initiation.

Currently the Corporation is undertaking country-wide mapping and market outreach to Government Institutions that consume rice and further establish a working framework likely to escalate to other products in the system.

My name is Kevin Ogutu, Reporter at Standard, Kisumu. Ahero rice farmers are stuck with their last year’s produce. They say you’re no longer buying rice fro them. Is there a reason for this.
